| Product Reviews from Amazon.com (Rating System 1 to 5) |
| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Oh the baking I'll do! I had wanted one of these for a long time, but just couldn't bring myself to spend the money. Finally around the holidays last year I saw that the model and color I wanted were on sale so with my Christmas bonus I treated myself to it. I was originally worried that I might not use it enough to warrant me spending so much, but I was completely wrong. I have used the mixer for so many items and not just baked goods. I am now looking forward to purchasing some attachments KitchenAid FPPA Mixer Attachment Pack for Stand Mixers to expand what it is capable of doing. I'm one that doesn't keep it on the counter, but I do keep it in a easily accessible cupboard with a sliding tray so that I can pull it out at a moments notice. KitchenAid is a well known reliable brand and if this is something you've been considering buying I say go for it, you will NOT be disappointed. | 4 | Today | Professional necessity Save strength and save time, I have been not busy and exhausted any more in kneading dough. But one problem with my machine when kneading bread dough at 4 speed, the motor-head shakes(the head is locked of cause), while the dough is not very solid at all. Perhaps my machines' head lock is not locked tightly.
All in all, I think this machine does a fabulous job efficiently and professionally. I strongly recommend it. | 5 | Today | inconsistent color I ordered this mixer as a gift and found the color to be inconsistent between stores even though the color name and model number were the same. The color was so off that the mixer had to be returned. I understand having different colors or models at different stores, but why would there be two colors using the same name and model number? Makes no sense and it was a hassle for both me and the person I gave it to. | 1 | Today | Great Mixer But Cost Money to Maintain We bought our KSM150 in 2004. It works great and we like it but it does have a design flaw that takes skill and money to replace. The transmission casing is metal and all gears except one are metal. The one non-metal gear is a worm gear that is plastic part number W10112253. Jot this number down as you will need to purchase it several times along with replacement grease. When using the mixer for stiff batters or bread dough, you can not push the 2-min limitation given in the manual. If you do, the plastic gear gets hot and fails. When this happens, you need a variety of tools, a specific repair manual and about an hour of time to replace the worm gear with a new one. I've done it three times in four years. I've talked with KitchenAid about this design flaw and they seem unreceptive to making a metal gear for this model as they have done with their professional 600 series which also had the same problem although with a plastic transmission casing instead of a plastic gear as with this model. It seems like they keep trying to push plastic in their mixers and it just doesn't hold up with time. For now, I'll probably keep replacing the plastic worm gear when it fails since I bought it in bulk the last time to save money. However, my next mixer will have all metal transmission and gearing and probably won't be KitchenAid. | 3 | Today | Great Great Mixer! We were given this mixer as a wedding present and it is great! I've made the best pizza dough that ever came from my kitchen with it and it was unbelievably simple.
The only problem I have is it moves, VERY slightly, when kneading something dense and heavy like bread dough. I'm not sure there is anything that could be done about it because the product is very heavy as it is. | 4 | Today | wonderfully powerful mixer In the short time (6 months) that I have used this mixer, I would say I like it very, very much, but it sure is heavy and so it sits atop of my counter. And, I've NEVER seen the price lower. | 4 | Today | happy bride's gift Not only is this an attractive mixer (colors) but it brought squeals of delight from the happy bride who opened it. The reputation precedes the item...these last forever!! | 5 | Today | At long last At long last I plunked down my hard earned money for this mixer. I have used it four times already and I have found it to do an excellent job at what it is intended to do. I also logged on the Kitchenaid forum and read some helpful hints that have helped me to take full advantage of this mixer. I got such a great price on this that there was no way I could have not bought it. I have it out on the counter and not only does it look great, it is functional and decorative. No regrets whatsoever. It might be more mixer than I need, but I also know that when I need it it will do an excellent job. | 5 | Today | Please Check other Review Sites and see how this machines reputation will be trash very very soon Before you decide to purchase this product PLEASE please PLEASE take the time to read other people's "horror" stories on other websites. There is invariably a very large proportion of negative reviews about this machine including their customer service vs the positive ones. Yes we all know that people are more likely to post negative reviews than positive ones - but I believe IMHO that the "across the board" consensus proves that not everyone can be wrong.
This all being said, I'll tell you my little story. My grandmother had one of these (well it looked the same) and I've been in love with it - fondly remembering licking the bowl after it was used to make wonderful kitchen concoctions. I have been "sold" on wanting one of the VERY SAME mixers from the time I was in that kitchen standing on the stool so I could see over the kitchen counter.
Just as a silly I-have-extra-time-on-my-hands thing, I decided to see what the reviews said about my "love". Well, I was offended at first thinking, these people must be crazy - I checked to make sure we were all talking about the same machine, etc. Yep, sure enough. Well the long and the short of it is - that my grandmother's machine manufactured 35+ years ago was manufactured as a part of a retail (home) line of a commercial mixer manufacturer called Hobart. Hobart is a company that still manufactures mixers (very high quality) but the have long since stopped being used by KitchenAid to make their mixers.
My grandmother was one of the lucky few that back in the day quality of the mixer and customer service was made by Hobart, but no longer do we in this generation have that wonderful option.
Now, I feel like I do not want to even CHANCE having any of the problems that a KitchenAid is NOW known for. If I could go back in time and get one of the older models - that is what I would do. But for me, I think the choice is going with a used Hobart (smallest version of course) - that WILL actually last. | 1 | Today | It's been a long time coming.... I have wanted one of these for YEARS...and, I finally bought one. I couldn't be more pleased.
It lives up to all the hype.
If you are considering buying this mixer, believe what everyone is saying ~ 1000+ reviews can't be wrong... | 5 | Today |
